Farmington Country Club Wedding | Andrew and Liz | | Charlottesville, Virginia Wedding Photographer
Picture this: a wedding in the middle of summer’s hottest days, but it’s indoors with with the most beautiful natural light you can imagine—and there’s brunch. Brunch. For most wedding photographers, that sounds way too good to be true. There had to be a catch. Thankfully for me, there was none, and this wedding was just as amazing as it sounds.
I met Andrew at Radford University while getting my BFA. We were both in the graphic design program; he’s super talented, and does amazing motion graphic work. When he and Liz asked me to photograph their wedding, I jumped at the opportunity. They’re the sweetest couple, and within a few minutes of talking to them you immediately know they’re meant for each other.
Their wedding took place at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. The venue was nothing short of amazing, and for a while I had to keep reminding myself that I was in fact not at Monticello.
I loved how the deep blue of Liz’s engagement ring and wedding band stood out against the flowers.
They didn’t believe me, but sometimes “Look at each other and laugh” does actually work!
What can I say, sometimes I’m just fresh out of jokes.
When in tiny, cramped rooms with one light source, you just have to make the shadows work for you. I liked that it helped draw attention to this moment, and showed off the details of Liz’s hair and veil.
I have a real soft spot for dad's at weddings. This shot was taken as Liz’s dad was taking a quiet moment just before she came out of her dressing room for the first time. He was a ball of nerves, like most dads are on their little girl's wedding day. Photos like these are often my favorites at weddings, and I think it really captured the anticipation before heading down the aisle.
I don’t think they could’ve picked a more perfect cake topper. How cute is this?!
One of my favorite moments of the day was Liz’s dad’s toast. He told a story of how she had lost a favorite stuffed animal, a flamingo, at Disney World years ago as a kid. He recently was able to find it again in a lost and found, and gifted it to her during his toast. It was such a sweet moment!
I really liked getting this perspective from the doorway. It framed the scene beautifully!
This handkerchief wiped away quite a few tears that day! I thought this was such a special little detail from Liz’s mom.
The second I saw these windows, I knew I wanted to shoot a few bridal portraits in front of them. It was so elegant and picturesque, and Liz looked absolutely beautiful!
One of my favorite shots of the day! A little behind the scenes: I had her look over at Andrew in this shot. Probably why it turned out so good!
Despite the heat, we did venture outside to get a few shots! It would’ve been such a shame not to with how beautiful the landscape is around the country club. When I suggested Andrew take his jacket off, there was zero hesitation though! It was probably around 95 with the midday sun beating down on us. These are still some of my favorite shots of the day!
Liz and Andrew, thank you so much for having me to capture your day! It was an absolutely beautiful wedding, and an honor to be a part of. I wish you both all the happiness in the world!
